Alcohol–the world’s favourite drug– be further restricted, or even banned?

In almost all countries in the world, adults are allowed to buy and consume alcohol with very little restriction (although there are often laws about the exact hours that bars and shops are allowed to sell alcohol, and laws against drinking and driving). This is in marked contrast to the legal situation with regard to other mind-altering (or ‘psycho-active’) drugs such as cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy, acid, and heroin. However, the experience of ‘Prohibition’ in the USA in the 1920s and 1930s, when there was a huge black market in alcohol run by a powerful criminal underworld, makes most people very wary of trying that solution again. In this debate the proposition can argue either for tighter restrictions or for complete prohibition. This debate is one that boils down to a debate about what balance should be struck between the need to protect society on the one hand and the need to preserve individual liberties on the other.

Alcohol is just as potentially addictive as many illegal drugs. Those who do become addicted to alcohol often lose their marriages, jobs, families, even their lives. A large proportion of homeless people find themselves in that position as a result of their alcoholism.Most of the accidents taking place are due to drinking of alcohol.Any drug this addictive and destructive should be illegal.So i am against it.And i think it should be banned.

too alcohol is bad for you both health and socal life. but then too much of everything is never good for anyone........isnt?

dosent mean people are addicated to something we will have to ban it right? there are many people addicted to many many things in this world just to name a few examples.... INTERNET, GAMING, EXERCISE, WORK, SEX ETC.......AND THE LIST GOES ON.......

so means to say we have to banned all these things? what about people who just enjoys it and takes it or do it moderately? dont you think its unfair then? i think instaed or banning alcohol, we must have proper education. we must make people aware of the disadvantages for being an alcoholic.......create awarness thats more important. once you ban a certain iteam, you will not help the situation but you will only give the black market an additional source of income......

I wonder how people like such drinks which make there health bad and also causes several dieseases.I never have drunk alcahot and am not intrested in drinking it too because I love my life and dont want to have health problems.

infact according to studies moderate drinking of wine is actually good for health it promotes blood circulation and also in cold countries it will help keep a person warm....so i still think if it is taken in a acceptable level, alcohol is good for your health......it will be bad if the person drinks too much or worst of all addicted to it........

Alcohol should be banned since it ruins Man life along with his family and also kills the individual.A drunken man loses his Consciousness and starts to commit Crimes and Bad deeds. Hence Alcohol should be banned.

Instead of knowing that Alcahols are injurious to health and also addictive in nature, many perple still tends to keep drinking it.According to me drinking such drinks is not just wasle of money but a risk of severe dieseases too.

Alcohol is the Root cause for all Crimes,once a man drinks,then he tends to become an addict. It is the nature of Alcohol, It can draw People towards itself and make them addicted to it.

No one here did not ever drink?!

Common guys, few beers with your friends ain't gonna kill you.

I drink only at Friday and Saturday with my friend, and so what.
I am not some alcoholic addicted person.

Also I daily drink gloss of wine cause it is good for my blood circulation.
But this month I don't drink at all, be cause of my religion.
After that I will continue.

Alcohol does nothing but cause problems. I say BAN it from the world over and watch the world improve 10x. It'll get really bad for a while but eventually things will improve so much without alcohol tainting the minds of our human population.
